Published by Steve Burge on

Here at Watchful, we are big fans of Akeeba Backup. And we know what many of you are too. We found that over 63% of sites on Watchful also use Akeeba!

Akeeba is the most popular way to backup Joomla sites. In fact, it’s the top-rated Joomla extension.

So we need to tell you about an important change to Akeeba.

Akeeba Backup 7 is coming in January. The Akeeba team have been working hard on this version. This release will feature a big rewrite of Akeeba’s backup engine, better support for cloud backups, and an improved interface.

However, they are also changing their API so that it is only available in the professional. This means that you will need Akeeba Backup Professional to backup your sites using Watchful.

You can click here to read about all the changes in Akeeba Backup 7. The current plan is release version 7, “between January 7th, 2020 and January 20th”.

If you use Akeeba Backup with Watchful, please make sure you use the Professional version on your sites.

Akeeba Backup Professional is €50.00 per year for unlimited sites. You can click here to subscribe. If you join before January 7, use the coupon code LUCKYSEVEN to save 30%.

My Joomla site actually use the last Akeeba Pro version (6.6.1) : why the schedule backup doesn’t work since last two days ? It was working well before, and I didn’t change anything on the site…

Under heading “Akeeba versions and Watchful”, you’ve used “If you’re using Akeeba with WordPress” twice.

One should read ‘If you’re using Akeeba with Joomla!” 🙂

Bah! Lol. I had changed that earlier and I think we got caught in a versioning loop 🙂

    Thanks for noticing!
